Family Vacation // Outer Banks, North Carolina (Part II)
A few weeks ago we traveled to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. It was our first family vacation with Holden, and we rented a huge beach house with each of our families. Lots of good times with Holden's aunts, uncles, and grandparents. This was our house.
Mindy's family and my family.
My parents and Mindy's parents.
It's official. We have the cutest kid ever made, I'm sure of it.
Sand, anyone?
Mindy decided to strip him down. Apparently babies are allowed to be nude on non-nude public beaches. Either that, or we just artfully alluded the authorities. Yeah, let's go with that one.
Holden was digging it, but he didn't really enjoy getting rinsed off.
We can't wait to go back!
Hannah + Seth // Maternity
There's something beautiful and amazing about a growing little life inside of you. I really enjoyed my pregnancy and sometimes even miss it (not planning on having any more for a while though!). I think that's what gets me excited about maternity shoots. I had the pleasure of capturing Hannah in her pregnancy beauty (isn't she cute?!) along with her husband Seth. Hannah is the sister of one of our recent brides, Becky. We spent the evening on Hannah's parents farm in New Carlisle, OH. It's such a beautiful place to shoot and turning into a favorite of ours. We shot Becky & Jesse's engagement photos on the farm as well. The farm has such charm and rusticness, not to mention 2 of the coolest old trucks! Congrats Hannah & Seth!! I cannot wait for Naomi's arrival! She is one lucky gal with one amazing family!

This is the popular Paul C. Buff Vagabond II battery pack which we used to power our Alienbee flash unit in the field for about a year. The unit basically blew up, so it was sent in for repairs, but in the mean time we bought the smaller Vagabond Mini battery. When it finally came back from the service center, it came with an invoice for the repairs, and it turns out they actually replaced the entire battery and inverter unit. Other than the orange carrying bag, the whole thing is brand new and has never been used (outside of testing at our house). Check out the Paul C. Buff website for more information on this unit. It retails for $299, we're asking $200 even.
Anson + David // Cincinnati Wedding Photography
Cincinnati is becoming one of our favorite cities to shoot in. It's full of character and great little nooks for photos. Back in March we shot Anson + David's engagement session and we recently had the privilege of photographing their wedding in Cincinnati. We started off at Anson's parents' historic home, and ended the night at the beautiful 20th Century Theater.

Family Vacation // Outer Banks, North Carolina (Part I) // Film
I decided to jump on the bandwagon and try my hand at some traditional film photography, and took it with me on our family vacation to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. These frames are from my first two rolls of film ever.
Thanks to my sister for this frame of our family!
I love the process of shooting film, but I'd say I gotta keep practicing.
Maggie + Bill // St. Louis Wedding Photography
I grew up in St. Louis, but I don't think I've ever lived there. What I mean is that I've never spent more than a few days at a time in St. Louis as an adult. I've never experienced many of the things that make St. Louis the great city that it is. Sure, I've been to plenty of Cardinals and Blues games, and I've been up in the Arch way too many times to count. But there's so much more to St. Louis that I wish I knew. The Hill. The Landing. The Loop. The Rams? If you remember from their engagement session, Bill is the "little" brother of my best friend Joe (the really hairy brother in the group, you'll know it when you see him). Mindy and I both absolutely love the Bubenik family, so obviously it was a huge honor to be there to photograph Maggie + Bill's wedding. It was awesome to catch up with so many old friends too.
We started at Maggie's parents house...
The guys got ready at the church...
As we were scouting out locations, we found this killer little spot sandwiched between a few buildings and a parking garage. We were shooting in the middle of the day, and it was blazing hot, but this little shaded area gave us some great soft light and some relief from the heat.
With the exception of Harrison, the best man, all of these guys are brothers. And they're huge.
Then, across the street, we found the holy grail. This little walkway between two of the buildings had this absolutely killer rainbow awning. And adjacent to that was a great water feature, and some benches, and some shade. It was perfect and really meshes with Maggie + Bill's personalities. They were loving every minute of it, and you could just see both of them relax and come out of their shells a bit. This is them.
Yeah... it was hot.
Joe's daughter Evie was the flower girl, and I swear this little girl cannot get any cuter.
The reception was at The Malt House Cellar, literally one of the coolest spaces I've ever been in. Such a great vibe, with the stone walls and exposed wooden ceilings (it was in the basement), it was an extremely casual reception, but everyone was having a great time (and if you ever go there, you HAVE to try to Beer Cheese Fondue. AH-MAY-ZING).
